Prensky - Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants - Part1
This article is old now... .but the sentiments are still current ( mostly). a more recent view might realise that lots of immigrants over come their accents and adapt to their new environments!
This paper was required reading two years ago at Victoria University and after reading it I realised that I had not given the subject much thought. It changed the way I thought about my role as a teacher of young children when using I.C.T. and how children use and view technology such as computers. A must read for sure.
"digital native' was a bit of a catchphrase in ICT circles for quite a while... that's for sure. It had quite an impact on teachers views of their assumptions about what we were trying to achieve I think! Great to hear from you.
Great reading, thanks Ann. As I watched my 8 month old grandson make a be-line for his Dads iphone I remember thinking, pretty soon he will have more idea how to use that than I would ;)
They are remarkably quick on the uptake with new technology... and are swipe geniuses on the touch screen!This is why we need to 'use their power for good!'
